So, I got the invite from Caryn and joined. Immediately, she was on my friends list and I found Charyn and Mom. Well, Facebook started showing me people I may know and, lo and behold, I DID know someone named Shelly whom I've always liked and is a sweet lady. So, I befriend her and she invites me to join a group of other people I've known a long time who have formed a charity to help a former h.s. classmate of ours who has brain cancer and 2 small children. Seemed harmless enough, right?
Well, next thing I know, I'm getting more and more friend invites. Flattered, I accept them, even one whose name I was not too familiar with, but vaguely recognized her picture as someone who hung out with friends of mine in h.s. Friend of a friend kind of thing. Well, next thing I know, this woman is writing on my wall about how happy she is to see 'us' and how great 'we' look. Long story short, she starts an IM session with me and starts inviting me to a class of 88 reunion and telling me how excited she was when she saw CARL'S last name and picture on my profile! She tells me how she saw the picture of Carl and called a mutual acquaintance of ours on the phone to verify that, yes, indeed that is Carl and I am his wife. THEN, she's telling me how she and Carl were 'best friends' back in h.s. and how much her mother adored him and how he was "better to her than she was to herself." It was at this point that I started to get uncomfortable. I started asking her about her husband and she says she's been married 20 years and has asked her husband's permission to contact MY husband! She asked me if she could have Carl's phone number or give him hers. At this point, I was not just uncomfortable, I was ANGRY. I told her, no, but that if she AND her husband would like to meet up with the 2 of us sometime, I'd consider it. In my mind, I was thinking, "Bitch, I will slice your throat!" As soon as she realized I was none-too-pleased about her efforts to reach my husband w/out her husband and I present, she pointed out her phone number, asked me to pass it on and left the IM room. Like that's gonna happen.
So, I told Carl what happened, and he said she was a good person back then, but who knows now? It's been 20 years. She could be just looking for an old friend, or she could be a bored housewife looking for a fling. Why take the chance?
He pointed out, for the 100th time, why he doesn't like these social sights, why he's told me a thousand times that they are nothing but gossip, drama and trouble for our computers. All true, but they are also a good way to keep in touch with people I love like ya'll and I can talk to Amanda on there when they never return my phone calls.
I'm torn now. Should I remove this woman from my friend's list? Am I overreacting? I'm so tempted to send her a not explaining why I'm removing her from my friend's list. I really don't want to see updates about her on my home page, to be honest, and I don't want her writing on my wall. Carl was right: I wasn't on there ONE day, and drama started.

I am trying to figure out the facebook thing. However if she upsets you block her. just because facebook thinks you might be friends dosen't mean you have to let them in. Love ya I like the blog I understand it better.
Oh Dear! What high drama. Carl seems to have his feet firmly on the ground. I would block her and pay no more mind to it at all. I have to say that I have not had any such drama on facebook and only have moms from the mom club as friends plus our family. I put my maiden name up hoping to get a bite. Maybe I don't want to. I tried classmates and have like 30 signatures there but I'm too cheap to pay to know who wants to contact me. One guy wrote but I don't know who the hell he is. Bes to leave the past buried. Why would she want to talk to Carl without you or her hubby? Block her! And be glad for your great catch.
For a minute, I thought I may be orverreacting, but the more I think about it, the more I realize what good can come of some woman on the internet wanting to contact my husband? NONE.
BLOCK HER! I block people tha are friends of freinds. I only have close friends and family on my facebook. You can always uninvite someone.
Well, she emailed me an apology and said she didn't mean to come on strong or sound nuts. Here's what she said:
I'd like to apologize. I didn't mean to come off so strong about talking to Carl and didn't want you to take it the wrong way. Carl and I were just good friends and like I said, he was at times a better friend to me than I was too him. Somehow my parents knew someone in his family and that started a whole new level of friendship between him and my family. Carl was good to my Mom and Dad, even helping my dad fix my trashed car. Sounds like he's not changed at all, as you said he's always working. Over the years I've wondered about him and had looked for him a few times, my dad has asked about him and when my mom passed away 8 years ago I wanted to let him know. I didn't mean to disrespect you or your marriage in anyway. I was so happy to see that you two were together, shocked because I knew in school you had never dated. But its great to see you both together and living a good life. I would love to see you both, to talk and catch up. I'm actually out in St. Charles once a week at that bar that my best friend is a bouncer at (OMG I just thought about, his name is Ron Grist, he lives in mine and Carls old neighborhood, in my godparents old house on Harriet, Joey lives next door to Ron) Anyway, we could meet up somewhere while I'm out there or whenever or maybe not at all. Again I just wanted to apologize. I am sorry if I sound like a nut. I was just happy to see Carl was good and happy he's married. Please tell him hi for me and let him know about my Mom and if you could let him know, his friendship is one of few that sticks with me and that he made those years in high school worth a lot. I guess getting married and moving to Germany caused me to lose a lot of friendships and by the time I got back to Illinois, everyone was somewhere else. (Although, I believe I saw Carl and Chris at my oldest sons baptism, Chis had a baby being done the same day...my oldest is 19, small world)
Take care & enjoy life.
Lori
PS my dad just called and said tell Carl hi too and that he'll be in town the end of October.
I blocked her. I caught lying and I blocked her.
