Carl had his tummy tuck and thigh lift a week ago Wednesday. As you may have guessed, his care has been keeping me very, very busy. The surgery itself went well, but his thighs do not want to stay sutured. He ended up having to stay 2 nights in the hospital while they got the bleeding under control. It is incredible how many sutures you can put in a human being, let me tell you. They extracted quite a bit of flesh from his body. In the long run, this will be a fantastic thing, as is it patently unfair to lose so much weight and still have your thighs rub together and your stomach hang over your pants. Of course, it was also a breeding ground for potential infections had he left it.
As for myself, I have been running around like a mad woman caring for his wounds and running him to and from the doctor repeatedly (an hour drive) because his sutures open and he starts bleeding again. Between him, the business, the dogs and this now very dirty house, I have not had time to wipe my own ass, let alone think or visit on the internet. *sigh* His dressings require near-constant supervision on his thighs. The tummy has been a walk in the park, but the thighs have been kind of a nightmare. I feel bad considering I suggested doing the thighs. But, in my own defense, I really felt it will improve his quality of life not to have his thighs rubbing together. I mean, how unfair would it be to be 5' 11", 180 pounds and still have your thighs rub when you walk? His stomach is so tight you could bounce a quarter on it!
Today, he felt well enough to volunteer at the Men's Breakfast at the church. I pray that he does not return to me with open sutures again. He left without letting me check his dressings, so I can only imagine the mess I will have when he comes home. Meantime, I am cherishing a few moments of "me" time and considering going to the mall to look at a new outfit as a present to myself for being such a great wife. I'd give my right arm for an Augestino's sandwich right now.
UPDATE: Carl just called from the road on his way rushing home from church. He is bleeding again. *sigh* Here we go again. More later (hopefully).
