Along the back edge of my property, on the other side of the pool, is a large hedge of beautiful Lilac trees. I very much enjoy these trees and their lovely, fragrant flowers. Every morning for the past 2 weeks, I go cut some flowers and make a fresh Lilac arrangement for the kitchen. Oh! The smell is delightful in the house. Carl loves it. Alas, this morning when I went out there, I could tell that these mornings are coming to an end soon as the flowers are beginning to brown and die off. Such is Spring....beautiful, but fleeting. It's been unseasonably cold this Spring here in Chicago. We've had a total of ONE day over 80 degrees so far! The Lilacs have not seemed to mind, but I confess that I HAVE minded.
Speaking of flowers, Carl bought me a gorgeous Hydrangea for Mother's Day. Does anyone know if I can plant that outside? It has no tag to tell me what to do with it.

I am not sure about planting it out side. Charyn may know. you might have to go back to the place of purchase and see if any have instrucions.
Generally hydrandea from floral shops are not hardy for our winters. You can plant it in the yard and take it in for the winter. It may last longer taht way rather than in the house. Assuming the risk of frost is over.
the way it feels tonight, I'm not certain the risk of frost is over yet. Brrrr!
I think I'll plant it in a container and bring it in for the winter.
