I’m starting this blog as a way of staying in touch with my family. Lately, it seems as if the family is falling apart at the seams…a thought that wrenches my heart. This blog is not about that. It is about sharing. Me, sharing of myself and, hopefully, my family sharing with me.
Family has been on my mind a lot lately. Members who have gone on and members who’ve recently come in. My grandmothers and grandfathers, my brother, my dear friends who were like family…they have gone on. Anthony, Adrianna, Sarina….they have recently ‘joined.’ I was thinking today on my way home from church that both my grandmothers were Christians. Toward the end of her life, I used to take Mommo to church on Sundays. I had not spent a great deal of time with her when I was younger since she lived in Canada, but I did get the opportunity before she died and, for that, I’m glad. It’s telling that a good amount of that time was spent in church. I’ll never forget how I ended up taking her the first time. We were at Mom and Dad’s one Sunday and she just looked at us and said, “Doesn’t anybody go to church around here?” I took her to my church that very next Sunday. She declared the large choir to be “too loud” then promptly fell asleep! Bless her heart, she came back with me every Sunday anyway. It seems odd, but I believe that was the most time she and I ever spent alone, just the two of us, was those Sundays.
I find myself wondering what Michael Joseph would be thinking of the family right now. What would he say about the turmoil? How much would be different if he had not died? What about Nana? What would she say? Mommo? I surely cannot guess, yet I still wonder sometimes.
Tonight, I was praying for Anthony and Adrianna in my intercessory prayer group and the Holy Spirit just spoke to my heart and said they are going to be ok. I felt Him say that, with a little help, they will come into their own and be just fine. They have been heavy on my heart a lot, but I’m trusting the Lord to take care of them.
I think about Joey G. and what he must be going through and pray for him every single day.
I must be getting old as I approach 40, because I find myself thinking of the ‘old times’ more and more. Oh, I look forward to new times, don’t get me wrong, but my mind does wander back to the ‘old’ days when everyone was still alive and I was too young to know or notice any bickering among the adults in the family. When Mike and I wreaked holy havoc all over the neighborhood in Winfield. Well, mostly Mike.
I have high hopes for this family. Hopes for restoration, reconciliation and prosperity. Galatians Chapter 5:22, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23: gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24: Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25: Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26: Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.”

Welcome to blogging? It's great therapy. I"m looking forward to reading more.
I think about Mommo all the time. And sometimes I swear Aunt Jeanette visits my bookstore. Ok, I'm not crazy, it's just a customer that looks like her but still I get a little veklempt because I know she would love my bookstore.
I was glad to see your blog. I know that Mamo enjoyed going to church with you on Sundays.
Her Uncle had been a preacher when she was little. When we ( my sister, brother and I) were small she had babtized us in my Grandmother's church out of respect for her and encouraged us to attend that church. Alto she never joined any church that I know of She felt that all church's where the house of the Lord and you did not have to go to church to beleive and pray to god.
The main thing I feel I have learned over the years is what you say and do is not always what others see and hear.
I have a saying from my Grandmother (Nanny to you) that I remember at times. " If at the end of the day, you can say that you did the best you could with what you had to work with that day. It was a good day."
She would love the fact that you have a book wall and work at the bookstore very much. She was quite the book person and she had a photographic memory for written material. I remember her reading matchbook's and soup can's when noting else was around. My the time she was about 10yo she had read all the book's in the childrens section of our libray and the librian gave her and adult card with restrictins written on it. You can imagine the reaction of the teachers the first time she went for our every 2 week trip to the libary with our class's. She was downstairs and the teacher was repremanding and took her upstairs to the childrens section and the librian came and said "Jeanette, what are yyou doing up here did you forget your card? The books you need are downstairs."
Funny that is the only part I remember other than after that Jeanette always stoped on the first floor and the rest of the class's went upstairs.
I still have a lot of your books, Charyn. I was fascinated by them as a child and read quite a lot. The James A. Michener [sp?] novels were yours, weren't they? I still have them! They are on my book wall.
See, this is working already because I did not know until now that one of Mamo's uncles was a preacher.
I think we can have many good conversations in here.
