Dee sent me this email last night:
Hello,I wanted to send out a quick email to all of my family and friends regarding Joeys health. As some of you already know, Joey has been in the hospital (Shands) since June 1st. He had to have surgery for the first time on June 6th to remove an enlarged lymphnode. It ended up that it was infected by the EBV virus (ebstein barr virus). He was also put in ICU for a week because he had a bad reaction to the methodone. We also found out that he has a compression fracture in his spine that effected 4 to 5 bones in his spine (that's why he shrunk 5 inches). The pulmunary team has also been working with him because the bottom of him left lung had collasped. Joey will be going soon to Brook Rehab Hosp in Jacksonville. I'm not sure when but maybe sometime in the middle of next week. This admission hasbeen very emotional for all of us, especially for Joey. I know that all of you always ask me if there is anything you can do for us, and I am finally coming to all of you now with this special request. Like I said Joey has been very emotional the last few days and I found out that Shands has a website that lets you send messages to the patients. If you go on Shands.org on the right side in the bottom of the box it says (send message to patient) they will hand deliver the message to him. That would mean the world to him and to Larry and I. I thank you for all the love and support you have given to all of us. We love you and Thank you. May God bless you all.Love, Denise

it's so awesome that we can send a message right to Joey anytime! cool
He needs them. He's been really down lately. I think it's starting to sink in just how long and difficult his recovery is going to be and that he may never have a "normal" life.
I sent off a message to Joey today. It is so nice that we can email him. How exciting for him to get mail. I know Ben loves Mail. He wants to be a mailman now and we delivered mail to all the neighbors this afternoon. He also wants to be a berry picker.
